Friday Random 10- 7/4/08 What's On YOUR iPod? Edition

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 06:24:40 AM PDT

Welcome to the Friday Random 10, StreetProphet's weekly music discussion group. Grab a beverage of your choice from today's Happy Hour thread, pull up a comfy chair, and start thumbing through the records, 8-tracks, tapes, CD's and mp3's lying around. If you're not into music, here's some noise-canceling earplugs- they'll filter out the music while you stay and chat with us about other stuff :-).

This is an early edition of the Random 10, because Casa Brillig is on its way to the banks of the Charles River in Boston to snag a choice spot, hang out for the day, and relax until the Boston Pops take the stage for their annual concert.  Then we watch the most massive fireworks I've ever seen up close and personal with 500000 of our closest friends!!!

Making this possible are the visiting friends who are going with us- you need a minimum of four adults so two can wander and someone stays with the blanket and cooler.  To reward them- and 'cause it's always fun to peek at someone's music library- today's Random 10 is a shuffle of the contents of my friend Tim's iPod....

  • Kiss & Tell Bryan Ferry - "Ten cents a dance It's the only price to pay" unless you don't pay for your dances :-)
  • Born In The 50's The Police - "My mother cried / When president Kennedy died / She said it was the communists / But I knew more"  Wonder what our kids will sing about us...
  • Moog Island Morcheeba - "The music that we hear is always standing near to feed us"  Amen...
  • Accidents Will Happen Elvis Costello - (sigh- no decent video exists) Is it me or does my friend's music library share the same...erm.. generational bias that my iPod does? :-)
  • There Goes My Gun The Pixies - "Yoo Hoo..." No video, 'cause they all seem to glorify handguns. Second amendment sure, handguns... not so much here at Casa Brillig
  • Falling For The First Time Barenaked Ladies - "It feels just like I'm falling for the first time"
  • Lorca's Novena The Pogues - This song tells of the murder of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca at the start of the Spanish Civil War.
  • Annie Waits Ben Folds - I've never heard this song before... have to go back and listen to the rest of the disc now.
  • Miracle Drug U2 - written about Irish writer Christopher Nolan. Go read the wiki :-).
  • Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life Monty Python - i'd forgotten just how absurd- and wise- this song was.  heh.

If you have someone visiting... see what's on their musical mind today!! Or give me your best patriotic or other themed music... or whatever you'd like. We are independent, after all! :-)
